So keep reading and we’ll take you through our top WCWS predictions!
Oklahoma
The Oklahoma Sooners are the reigning champs of women’s college softball and are the favorites for winning that pennant again. The 2021 team was absolutely fierce and they seem to have a team that’s even stronger than last year.
This year, the team is once again being headed by Joceyln Alo, the NCAA home run leader. However, they’re now also being defended by star pitchers Hope Trautwein and Jordy Bahl.
The team leads the league in slugging, on-base percentage, home runs, batting average, and a variety of other terrifying statistics. With that said, they also lead the league in ERA. So not only do they get on base and score but they’re also great at stopping the other team from hitting the ball.
Florida State
Florida State has a powerful softball team and lost in the 2021 softball postseason to Oklahoma. The Seminoles have a strong defense and lead the league in terms of fielding percentage.
Many of their players have a batting average above .300. And their best player is Devyn Flaherty, one of the best batters in the country.
The team sadly lost some valuable players but has added Michaela Edenfield, who has hit more than a dozen home runs so far.
The Florida State team already has a lot of wins behind them, dominating Clemson, Florida, Michigan, Alabama, UCLA, and Texas.
UCLA
Speaking of UCLA, the Bruins should not be brushed off when it comes to women’s college softball predictions. The team is currently ranked third in win percentage, behind FSU and Oklahoma.
What works in the team’s favor is how experienced the lineup is now. Megan Faraimo leads a dominant pitching staff. While she missed out on the postseason last year because of an injury, she’s back and ready to win.
The team ranks second when it comes to ERA and they are top dogs for strikeout-to-walk ratio. The Freshman starting pitcher Savannah Pola has been nothing less than incredible.
They still have Kinsley Washington, who hit a viral walk-off hit to win the 2019 championship. Other key players include Maya Brady, Danielle Wisz, and Briana Perez.
Arkansas
The Arkansas Razorbacks seem to really be coming in strong for 2022. They recently swept their series against the University of Florida and dominate the SEC division. The team is being headed by Danielle Gibson and has a powerful offense.
Three of their players, Linnie Malkin, Hanna Gammill, and Danielle Gibson are hitting with a batting average north of .400. Also, four of their players have hit at least ten home runs.
This team doesn’t just get on base but they make it home too. While they’re not at the top of our list, the ladies from Arkansas certainly have what it takes to make it to the World Series.
Virginia Tech
If you’re talking softball predictions, you can’t forget Virginia Tech. Last year, the Hokies came very close to making it all the way to the end. They gave it their all in Los Angeles against UCLA in the Regional but couldn’t quite pull through.
The team has a strong offense with hitters like Cameron Fagan and Emma Ritter. If a team slips up just a little against them, don’t be surprised when Virginia Tech gets the upper hand.
Alabama
Alabama is a little on the weaker side but they definitely have plenty of promise. They lost to Western Kentucky and Texas A&M recently. But Montana Fouts still has what it takes to bring her team to the championships this year.
This team has what’s needed to form a strong circle with Lexi Kilfoyl and Fouts. They also have a great production from their freshmen Dallis Goodnight and Megan Bloodworth.
They got a big win over Virginia Tech recently and barely lost to their rival, Florida State University.
Oklahoma State
If any underdog is going to make it to the Women’s College World Series this year, it’s going to be the Oklahoma State Cowgirls. These women have had some issues getting ahead but their players are solid.
Miranda Elish and Kelly Maxwell are two strong pitchers with low ERAs and a bunch of strikeouts. The defense is second in the country in terms of fielding percentage.
They also have a very strong schedule. Some of their best hitters are Chyenne Factor, Julia Cottrill, and Sydney Pennington, all of whom have at least ten home runs this season.
Of course, no matter who makes it to the championships, you’re going to want to make sure you attend the game. Go here to get your tickets today before they sell out!
