In a surreal moment at the Academy Awards tonight, Best Actor nominee Will Smith jumped from his seat in the crowd and slapped Chris Rock in the mouth after Rock make a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith. Rock made light of Jada’s short hair by saying he was “waiting for G.I. Jane 2.” Seconds later, Smith sprang from his seat in the audience, approached Rock, and swung, open-handed with his right hand, connecting with Rock’s cheek. The crowd gasped and no, it was not a stunt.
