Why The U.S Government is Cracking Down on Exotic Animals
It’s not fair to big cats and other exotic animals to be kept in captivity
Recently, the U.S government has been cracking down on exotic animal owners. This is due to the fact that it is not fair for these animals to be kept in captivity. They are not meant for this and they deserve their freedom just as much as any other animal does.
Exotic animals in captivity have been linked to many deaths and injuries of both humans and animals alike. If you want an example of this, just look at what happened with a man who owned several tigers, who was mauled by one while he was feeding it meat outside his home (1). This poor man lost both of his hands and one of his legs after being attacked by his own pet tiger! That’s not all though; this incident happened back in 2016. In addition to this accident there were several other incidents involving exotic animals attacking people who came near them or accidentally got too close for comfort (2).
The worst part about all of this is that there are no laws protecting these animals from being abused by their owners. So if you think about it logically, it makes sense that something deserves our attention.
Celebrities like Joe Exotic should not own big cats
This is the story of Joe Exotic, a Florida man who owns a private zoo and has been in the news lately because he appears to be an extremely bad person.
Exotic is a self-proclaimed zookeeper who also runs a YouTube channel where he posts videos of himself feeding his tigers raw meat and bragging about how much he loves them. The channel has more than 250,000 subscribers and about 25 million views.
In one video, Exotic tells viewers: “I’m like a big cat expert.” He says that since he was a child, he wanted to own a tiger.
“I always wanted to have a tiger,” Exotic said in another video. “That’s just like my dream.”
He has been accused of abusing animals and making racist comments online, according to reports from multiple media outlets. A PETA investigation found that Exotic had been accused of beating employees at his facility with sticks and rocks, having sex with underage girls at his zoo and soliciting prostitutes for his parties there as well as other zoos he owns.
A few days ago, Exotic was arrested after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at their home in Homosassa Springs, Florida — which is also home to several exotic animals including lions. Hopefully the Feds will come save his lions.
Is it safe to own exotic animals?
Exotic animals can be a fun and exciting addition to your home. However, they need specialized care and are not easy to take care of. If you are thinking about getting an exotic pet, it is important to understand what it takes to own one before you make the commitment. Its not like you can tame a wolf with CBD dog treats like you could with a poodle.
Even if it is safe to own exotic animals, it is not ethical. The exotic animal trade involves animals being taken from their natural habitats and put into captivity where they are unable to live in a natural environment. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) estimates that there are more than 10 million species of animals on earth that have not yet been identified or studied by scientists. These species could be threatened with extinction due to habitat loss or because they are hunted for food or killed for their skins or body parts.
Exotic pets can also carry diseases that can spread to humans, causing serious illness or even death. For example, African clawed frogs carry salmonella bacteria in their skin and feces and can transfer these bacteria directly onto humans through their touch or through contact with contaminated objects such as countertops or furniture.
Will the federal government save exotic pets in the US?
The Humane Society of the United States recommends choosing non-exotic pets instead of exotic ones because they are less likely to transmit diseases.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering whether to list the African lion as an endangered species.
The Humane Society of the United States says this would be a step in the right direction. The organization has been pushing for years to get the big cat listed, arguing that it’s being poached at alarming rates for its body parts, which are used in traditional medicine.
The Humane Society estimates that at least 3,000 lions are killed each year for their bones and teeth — even though those products aren’t considered valuable by most people.
In fact, some countries have banned trade in lion parts because they’re concerned about the impact on wild populations. But the United States still allows it here under certain circumstances: If you can prove that you’re not trying to sell these items commercially — say you’re using them for religious purposes — then you can import them into this country without breaking any laws.
