What Are the Different Types of Cannabis Strains That Are Grown Today?

The legalization of marijuana has created around 321,000 jobs, millions of dollars in revenue, and spawned countless new strains of cannabis plants. The cannabis industry is rapidly growing, so how can you stay informed on the options available to you?

Read on to learn about the different types of cannabis and how to choose the strain that is best for your experience.

THC vs CBD

Whether you’re a casual user or a marijuana enthusiast, it’s important to know the difference between these two compounds. Even in 2022, many people do not know the difference between THC and CBD and how that affects your marijuana experience.

THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol and is the compound that is responsible for getting you high, typically causing the euphoric feeling. This chemical helps treat issues like insomnia and lack of appetite.

Also known as cannabidiol, CBD has similar effects to THC without being psychoactive. It can be used to improve your mood, relieve pain, and reduce anxiety.

Types of Cannabis

The two main plant subspecies to consider when choosing a strain are known as Cannabis indica and Cannabis sativa.  There are also hybrid strains that are created using a combination of the two.

It is important to understand the ratio of THC to CBD in a strain. Each strain may produce different effects and experiences, which can be helpful in sorting through the many available options.

Indica

Categorized by its bushy plants and broad, dark green leaves, the Cannabis indica plant is typically aligned with strains that create a relaxing and sedating effect on its user. It usually contains higher percentages of CBD, which can in turn help with pain relief and increase your appetite.

Afghan Kush originates from Hindu Kush mountains and helps with pain relief or a lack of appetite. Northern Lights is known as a popular sleep-inducing strain. Buy Bubba Kush for its heavy tranquilizing effects.

Sativa

The Cannabis sativa plant is tall and skinny with light green leaves. Sativa, known for its stimulating qualities, can help boost your energy, increase your focus, and even improve your mood.  These strains tend to contain more THC than CBD.

Sour Diesel is great for boosting your productivity and energy. Acapulco Gold is a highly praised strain know for its energizing and euphoria-inducing effects. Maui Wowie is a Sativa known for boosting your creativity.

Hybrids

Many growers (and nature) have begun to crossbreed the Indica and Sativa plants to create strains that yield more specific results. The balance of THC and CBD will vary upon the strain.

Blue Dream helps users soothe pain, cramps, and inflammation. Skywalker OG gives you a strong body high to aide with pain. White Widow is known to improve your mood and reduce stress.
