Taraji P. Henson & Chris Paul Appointed To Biden’s HBCU Advisory Board

The White House has announced that #TarajiPHenson and #ChrisPaul are among the nine men and nine women #PresidentBiden has appointed to the President’s Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

The board is tasked with advancing the goal of the of the #HBCU Initiative, which was reestablished last year.  They aim to “increase the capacity of HBCUs to provide the highest-quality education to its students and continue serving as engines of opportunity,” according to the White House.

Taraji studied acting at the illustrious Howard University, and launched the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation in 2018. A foundation created in honor of her late father, which gives scholarships to African-American students majoring in mental health, offers mental health services to youth in urban schools, and works to lower the recidivism rates of African-American men and women.

While Chris has actively worked to expand the Business of Entertainment Media and Sports special topics course at NC A&T, Southern University, Winston Salem State and Clark Atlanta University!

More support for HBCUs has been part of Biden’s domestic policy agenda since his campaign for president. The White House shared that the administration has committed $5.8 billion in support to these HBCUs through a combination of pandemic relief funding, grants and forgiving capital improvement debt. However, last year, he proposed increased funding for HBCUs but his full proposal was not passed by Congress.
