LSU’s Ty Floyd has had an outstanding outing thus far, striking out seven batters without walking a single one – but has run out of gas by the eighth inning.
LSU will advance to the College World Series final against Florida with a win over Wake Forest on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Omaha. Cade Beloso’s go-ahead single in the ninth inning lifted them past South Carolina at Founders Park Friday with an exciting comeback victory.
LSU rallied from being down 2-0 after two innings to take a 4-3 lead before the third inning was up, only for Wake Forest to come back and regain the advantage with Alex Milazzo hitting a two-run homer to give Wake Forest a 6-4 edge.
After five innings with no scoring, Jack Winnay started the sixth inning by singling to right field and moving to third on Tyler Goeddeke’s sacrifice bunt before scoring when LSU Tommy White reached on an error. Griffin Herring quickly responded by striking out Nick Kurtz as soon as possible to prevent Wake Forest from seizing control of this contest.
Caglianone made things worse by throwing a wild pitch, resulting in an unearned run for LSU. Dylan Crews started the eighth inning off right by walking before scoring on Gavin White’s single. Unfortunately for Wake Forest’s rally attempt, double plays ended the inning, ending its momentum altogether and cutting short its success.

LSU baseball is one win away from winning its seventh College World Series crown since program history began in 1947. After an incredible night with some record-setting plays, they won game one in the best-of-three finals with Florida on Saturday by winning 4-3 thanks to Cade Beloso’s game-winning homer in the 11th, LSU are in control and are poised for a repeat victory at their sixth consecutive College World Series Championship game against Texas Tech on Monday afternoon.
The Tigers entered the College World Series as the No. 1-ranked overall team and spent much of their season at or near the top of national rankings. A late-season slide dropped them down to seventh in some rankings; however, since then they have come storming back and now stand just a victory away from capturing another championship title.
LSU has managed to keep its players healthy this season, and the Tigers’ top two hitters, Dylan Crews, and Skenes, are projected as being high selections in the 2023 MLB Draft.
