What happens if your website isn’t functioning properly at all? Seeing a website error can throw you into a frenzy, especially if you don’t know what to do about it.

The good news is that most website errors are minor and one simple fix will get things up and running again. The first step is to understand what website errors really mean.

Read on as we talk about some of the most common website errors and what you can do to fix them.

Error 404: Page Not Found

Error 404 is by far the most common website error you’ll encounter both on your own website and on the web at large. It means that the website you’ve entered does not return any known results. If you get an Error 404, it tends to mean that either you haven’t created the page or that your soft redirect programming language can’t figure out where you’re trying to go.

Error 401: Forbidden

Error 401 indicates that someone does not have permission to look at the page they’ve tried to open. For example, if a customer accidentally tries to navigate to a members-only page without a membership, they’ll get a response of Error 401. However, this can also occur when you’ve moved files, deleted files, or altered the access codes.

Error 500: Internal Server Error

Some errors are easy to understand and resolve. Error 500 is not one of them. Error 500 indicates that something has gone awry with the internal server.

Error 500 often comes with the additional message that your website has encountered an unexpected error and that they should try again. However, trying again doesn’t always solve this problem. Figuring out the source of it can be mind-numbing because Error 500 is a generic response that can indicate a wide variety of problems.

How to Fix Website Errors

These three website errors are common but they’re nowhere near all of the website errors you can encounter. Errors can pop up in response to everything from a temporary server crash to bad website design. How can you stay on top of all of them?

IT support services are your best bet. Believe it or not, even a small business with a small budget can afford to work with IT. IT can solve any website error that comes your way, ensuring that your commercial website stays up and running and you never miss a sale.

Don’t Get Bogged Down by a Website Error

In the digital age, your website is key to your business’s success. Encountering a website error may seem daunting, but when you have a professional IT team to call, you can rest easy.
