How to Monitor EMF Levels in Your Home (And What They Mean)

Are electric and magnetic fields (EMFs) harmful to your health? Unless you’re living off-grid, you’re most likely surrounded by electronic goods, whether you like it or not. The number of electronics appearing on the market is increasing every year and EMF levels emitted from different sources are a growing concern.

But what is EMF, and is it something to worry about?

Electric and magnetic fields come from anything that uses electricity. This could be indoors or outside, such as from powerlines. EMF levels can vary depending on the source and generally come from everyday items like cellphones, laptops, routers, etc.

There are conflicting views on whether EMF emissions pose a threat to human beings. Some may be skeptical; however, EMFs are scientifically proven to exist.

So the question is, how does EMF exposure affect you?

Signs of EMF Exposure

The home is probably the biggest cause of EMF exposure due to the number of electronic devices that can be found inside. There’s a high chance that if you’re not using your cellphone, then you might be watching TV or using a household appliance. Wireless internet connections and Bluetooth devices like speakers are also commonplace in the modern home.

As a result, there are now more and more health issues emerging from these high levels of EMF exposure. EMF symptoms can range from more serious illnesses like cancer to less severe issues that include:

  • Constantly feeling tired
  • Insomnia and trouble sleeping
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Depression
  • Unable to focus
  • Memory loss
  • Dysesthesia
  • Feelings of nausea
  • Dizzy spells

These are just a few examples of problems that you might be experiencing. The problem is that most people may not know that the cause of their symptoms stems from EMF exposure.

EMF Testing

Unfortunately, EMF waves cannot be seen or felt, so it will be difficult to know how much radiation is surrounding you. To find out how high the EMF levels are inside your home, you will need to have the right equipment for testing. Using EMF meters and monitors is the best way to detect unusually high levels of radiation indoors.

A good EMF meter will be extremely sensitive to radiation and can detect EMF waves from a wide range of frequencies. Due to the nature of radiation, it can be difficult to get an accurate reading with a weak monitor. Therefore investing in a high-quality meter is the most precise way to measure the EMF levels yourself.

Can You Completely Reduce EMF Levels?

Unless you plan to cut all electrical appliances from your life, it would be impossible to reduce EMF levels completely. The best way is to try and limit your exposure as much as possible through shielding and reducing your usage.

Regular EMF testing can help you find areas that emit the highest levels of EMF. This will allow you to accurately take measures on preventing and reducing your overall exposure to radiation.
