How to Build the Best Oral Hygiene Routine

Just as the eyes are the windows to the soul, oral health is the window to overall health. Our teeth play an essential role in our daily lives, including helping us to eat and digest foods properly, speak clearly, and have confidence in social situations.

The risk of having poor dental health includes tooth loss, gum disease, and other health risks include cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and heart disease.

The key to having excellent oral health is to have the best oral hygiene routine. In this blog post, we will highlight practical advice you can use, from regular flossing and brushing to routine cleanings with your dentist. Let’s get started.

Brush Twice Daily

It is recommended that you brush your teeth at least twice a day. Generally, people will brush their teeth in the morning after breakfast and in the evening before going to bed. Of course, there is nothing stopping people from brushing their teeth after every meal.

While there are different types of toothpaste available, you should always use fluoride toothpaste when brushing your teeth and update your toothbrush regularly (approximately every 3 to 4 months).

Floss Daily

Flossing is just as important as brushing your teeth. That said, many people skip this essential oral hygiene routine step.

Flossing helps to remove pieces of food that have become stuck between the teeth. It also helps to reduce plaque, stimulate the gums, and reduce inflammation.

Schedule Regular Dental Cleanings

It is commonly recommended that people schedule a dental cleaning with their dentist every 6 months. The most suitable timeframe really depends on your current oral health and you may require more frequent visits.

Deep cleaning teeth helps to remove tartar and plaque below the gumline. This improves gum health and reduces gum inflammation. Regular dental cleanings are essential to preventing serious dental issues such as tooth decay and gum disease.

Limit Sugary and Acidic Foods

When you are improving your oral health routine, your diet is just as important as your cleaning efforts. Sugar converts into acid in the mouth. This can result in the erosion of the teeth’s enamel and lead to cavities.

Opt as much as possible for crunchy vegetables and fruits over sugary snacks. Also, we recommended that you increase your daily water intake, in particular after meals. This will help to keep the teeth cleaner between brushes.

Build the Best Oral Hygiene Routine

The above tips will help to you have an oral hygiene routine that protects the health of your teeth and gums. Every step is as important as the next, as it is a person’s cumulative efforts that will keep them smiling their best smile for many years. Speak to your dentist for more information.
