How to Be More Eco Friendly: 5 Basic Tips

26 trillion dollars may be saved by 2030 if people began living in more eco-friendly ways and caring for our planet.

Learning how to be more eco-friendly sounds challenging, but it really is not. The great news is that you can take tiny steps to make a big impact.

So what are some eco-friendly tips that you can start today? Here are five tips for going green so you can start caring for the environment.

1. Use A Reusable Waterbottle

Water use is a consistent concern for our planet. Not only the use of water but plastic water bottles as well. As plastic decomposes, it distributes harmful chemicals into the environment.

Using your own water bottle cuts down the continued use of plastic water bottles. Buy a stainless steel water bottle, which has a long lifespan, and use it whenever you need to carry water with you.

2. Compost

Composting puts minerals and nutrients back in the soil via the fruit and veggie scraps you discard. Instead of throwing these in the trash, where they’re taken to a landfill, put them to good use by starting your own compost bin.

Your compost bin could be on your countertop, in your back yard, or even in your own city like a Mr Fill compost bin. However, you choose to compost, make sure it’s convenient for you.

3. Buy Second-Hand Clothing

The clothing industry is worth about 12 billion dollars. All those new clothes eventually end up in a landfill and many of them are perfectly wearable. Even more, it takes up to 200 years for clothes to decompose.

If you want to reduce the impact of clothing in landfills, buy second-hand clothing from resale shops. Many resale shops only take clothing in wearable condition, and you can purchase pieces at a fraction of the cost of new clothes. If you have clothing to get rid of, consider donating instead of throwing it away.

4. Use Energy-Efficient Appliances

Your appliances use up most of the energy in your home. Because of this, if your appliance is older it’s likely using more energy and causing your utility bills to skyrocket.

If you can, switch to energy-efficient appliances and start saving on your utility bills. Thankfully, you don’t have to switch all your appliances, but you can make small changes like drying your clothes in the warm weather, using cold water for clothing, turning off lights, and setting your thermostat at predictable temperatures.

5. Bring Your Own Bags

Plastic bags also pose dangers to the environment. When you go shopping, bring your canvas or cloth bags along with you to reduce the use of plastic bags.

Most stores offer incentives for customers who use their cloth bags at their stores, such as a certain percentage off or a donation to a charity.

This is How to Be More Eco-Friendly

When you’re thinking about how to be more eco-friendly, don’t panic. These are small steps you can take to start caring more about the environment and make a difference.
