While Rakulpreet Singh is doing some amazing work back-to-back in Hindi cinema, the actress’ work in Telegu has been so commendable – with films like Dhruva, Spyder, Jaya Janaki Nayaka and many more. Which explains why, Rakul is only happy that now south movies have a Pan-India recognition and the audience has now woken up to the quality of this industry. Recently, the actress got into a conversation with Shravan Shah, Entertainment Head, MissMalini where she spoke about her journey and lots more.
“When I started shooting for De De Pyaar De here, people were not aware of my body of work in Telegu. Today, the films that are being celebrated or the actors that people know of – like, Ramcharan, or Allu Arjun or Jr NTR – today they know these actors but at that point, they were not aware so the perception was very different about how I had to tell them about my body of work. But today, thanks to the social media or the last two years of the lockdown where the cinema from the south became merged with Bollywood, and it’s a great space.”
The actress admits, she’s always been very proud of the south industry and the work she’s done there and never took anything against it, even when people here didn’t know much about it.
“I never took anything against Telegu cinema. I feel any kind of good cinema should be celebrated. At the end of the day, I feel happy and I’ve always maintained this that Telegu cinema has a very special place in my heart because I began my journey there. My experience or exposure in south cinema has made me the person I am today. The actors I worked with, like Charan or Taarak or Mahesh Babu, and every director I worked with; every single person shaped me into the person I am today. It feels great when that cinema is being celebrated worldwide. I feel India is the only country where you can do that because we are so rich in culture and heritage. So, imagine if the whole country comes together to make Indian cinema, then we will put India on the global map. It’s a great space for every actor to be recognized globally and create some great content.”
Those are some wise words indeed. I’m super impressed with Rakul’s conviction and she does continue to dole out some great work every time. I’m so looking forward to seeing her in Runway 34 when it releases on April 29.
