Durk Launches Non-Profit Organization Neighborhood Heroes Foundation

When it comes to an artist giving back to their community, you better mention Lil Durk! The Chicago native recently went home to speak with the youth to inspire them to pursue higher education through his Neighborhood Heroes Foundation. According to NBC Chicago, on Tuesday, the organization launched its Career Readiness program and partnered with several organizations to change the lives of twenty students.

Through Durk’s program, students will have the opportunity to go on an HBCU college tour and visit various institutions in Atlanta. Following the tour, participants will experience the YellaWood 500, the NASCAR Playoffs at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama.

However, that’s not all the foundation has in store for the students! The first cohort of young men will fly to New York City to meet with C-Suite executives from Sony, Alamo Records, and the NY Knicks! During that time they’ll be able to shadow seasoned professionals that look like them and hear similar stories of their upbringings.

One of the participating students, Semaje Vaughn, who attends King College Prep, spoke with NBC Chicago about the opportunity to be a part of Durk’s foundation, admitting he didn’t have hope for his future until now. “I didn’t believe in anything, but being able to have opportunities like this is a big uprise from where I used to be.” Durk also spoke with the news and was vocal about trying to change the lives of the group of young men.

Durk and his foundation are making a big difference, but they didn’t do it alone. The foundation thanked several partners on Instagram, including; The White Sox, Champs Mentoring, the Sigma Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, Nascar, and their driver Bubba Wallace. Lastly, Michael Jordan’s 23 Eleven Racing Team for hosting the students.
