Swipe right! Ashton Kutcher, Ben Affleck, Adele and more stars have opened up about their experiences with online dating — but not every celeb has a swiping success story.
In March 2014, the That ’70s Show alum was one of a handful of famous faces allegedly spotted on Tinder. One year later, Mila Kunis admitted that her now-husband pushed her to try Tinder and Grindr when they were together.
“He was like, ‘So babe, you know, I got this thing that I’m thinking about. … You need to do me a favor and look at this app. Download [it].’ I was like, ‘No problem!’” the Black Swan star said during a 2015 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “I’m on this thing going, ‘What is this?!’ Like, swiping things left and right.’ I’m like, ‘This is amazing!’”
Kutcher, who was approached to invest in the online dating app, didn’t stop with just Tinder. “This is stuff that I do at home. He makes me go on all of these websites,” Kunis joked. “What’s the gay version of Tinder? Grindr! I’ve been on Grindr.”
While Kutcher’s interest in the world of online dating was strictly for professional purposes, Affleck’s was personal. In October 2019, he confirmed that he was using Raya following his split from Lindsay Shookus six months prior.
“HA, you got me. I’m dating,” he tweeted at the time, using the attention to raise awareness for a cause near to his heart. “But let’s be serious for a moment and talk about something that is actually important. I have been in recovery for over a year and part of that is helping out others. The Midnight Mission is an incredible organization that helps those in need with housing, training, development and recovery.”
He later proposed that the company match his donation to the organization. “Raya, you in?” he added.
Less than two years later, the Gone Girl actor’s dating app use raised eyebrows once again after an alleged match’s TikTok went viral. “Thinking of the time I matched with Ben Affleck on Raya and thought it was fake so I unmatched him and he send me a video on Instagram,” actress Nivine Jay captioned a May 2021 post, sharing a clip of the message she received from Affleck.
For her part, Adele owned up to trying out online dating in her 2015 book, The Biography. Sharon Stone, Lizzo and Hannah Brown have all tested the virtual waters as well — but the former Bachelorette didn’t have much luck.
“I don’t know if you know this, but I was the Bachelorette. And I can’t get on Raya,” the Alabama native joked in a February 2020 Instagram Story. “I’ve been on the waiting list for months now … I’m done. Christian Mingle, here I come. I might not be allowed on Christian Mingle at this point, but Jesus still loves me.”
