Casey Mata has been employed with Carson City School District for over 25 years. Beginning as a teacher at Bordewich Elementary, she then served as a second-grade team teacher, science educator, and school improvement grant coordinator. Passionate about Carson City community events such as Seeliger Pumpkin Patch teaching (she held this post for over eight years!), membership on the Children’s Museum Board of Directors, and as president of the Carson City Administrators Association, Casey is truly a dedicated educator!
Prior to her current role as principal of Fritsch Elementary, Ms. Anderson held roles as dean of students at Eagle Valley Middle School and an administrative intern (TSO) teacher on particular assignment (TASO) teacher at Carson Middle School, where she also taught sixth-grade science and English language arts, classes. Additionally, she earned a Master’s of Education degree from Southern Arkansas University.
Gary Lyon has been with the district since 2018. As an active member of his community and avid educational supporter, Gary takes an avid interest in education. Prior to working for Thomas Edison State University, Gary worked in the private sector before opening his own small business. Gary enjoys playing pickleball, golfing, and traveling with his family as hobbies – his hobbies also include pickleball and golf! With a bachelor’s degree from Thomas Edison State University under his belt, Gary enjoys volunteering his services and helping those in need in his community.
Carson City School District employees offer students an ideal learning environment in the classroom. They assist teachers with curriculum delivery, supervise student activities, and serve as mentors for new teachers. Furthermore, they support special needs education needs while working closely with administration, staff, and parents to achieve optimal results for all.
There are 13 public schools within the district with a combined enrollment of 7,742. Their academic ranking is 7/10; minority enrollment stands at 55% while AP(r) participation stands at 30% – as opposed to 26% and 32% average for Nevada public schools, respectively.
The district is currently seeking qualified staff members, particularly nutrition workers and bus drivers, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been challenging to fill full-time, benefited positions. Works in a climate-controlled school setting where temperatures range between moderate to severe weather conditions. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals; travels when necessary for offsite assignments; frequently lifts/moves objects weighing up to 100 pounds; may require the use of ladder, mask, or respirator and must follow directions without supervision, reporting directly to their assigned site; must possess valid driver’s license with insurance coverage and complete all tasks independently.
Carson City School District’s Maintenance Support Department delivers superior service across their buildings and grounds, with their primary objective of keeping all facilities clean and safe for students, residents, and visitors to use. Their primary responsibility lies with keeping classrooms swept, vacuumed, desktops dusted off, and wastebaskets emptied.
