Can Chiropractor Help Peripheral Neuropathy?

Are you suffering from muscle weakness, numbness, and feeling pins and needles? This is an indicator you may have peripheral neuropathy. Around 20 million people in the United States suffer from some type of neuropathy.

Read more to learn about how a chiropractor can help with your symptoms.

What Is a Chiropractor?

A chiropractor specializes in adjustments to the joints and bones, which may help with neuromuscular disorders. By working with the spine, the chiropractor can adjust the body to its normal setting.

Depending upon the injury, muscular problems, and symptoms, continued adjustments can help show your body where it should remain instead of being out of alignment.

They’re especially useful for neuropathy because the spine affects the nervous system, which can cause and change neuropathy.

What Is Peripheral Neuropathy?

When it comes to diagnosing neuropathy, there are around 100 different kinds; each one has its own symptoms and prognoses. But what they do know is this condition affects nerves outside of the spinal cord–mostly hands and feet.

The most common form is peripheral neuropathy in diabetics.

This is the most common form, and it happens when someone with diabetes has consistently high blood sugars. If this is not under control, damage to the body occurs, and this is in the form of neuropathy.

Again, symptoms vary from person to person, but with diabetes, they will experience numbness in certain places and even burning. Other conditions that can cause this are autoimmune diseases, infections, tumors, bone marrow disorders, etc.

Unfortunately, there is no cure. However, some medications and therapies may help to lessen and reduce symptoms. For example, if you often feel these symptoms in your hands and feet, your doctor could suggest using braces.

Chiropractic Care

Choosing a chiropractor can be difficult, and you want them to be familiar with peripheral neuropathy. Waterside Chiropractic is your one-stop shop for all of your chiropractic needs.

They can help reduce pain and numbness, tingling, and swelling by going to see them. After your visit, you’ll have a better range of motion and improved balance.

When attending an appointment, they will go over all of your medical history, why you are seeking chiropractic care, and what they think the best treatment route is.

Chiropractors have their patients go through a series of adjustments where they try to teach the body to stay in a normal position.

These appointments may be combined with sessions on the stem machine. This machine sends electric pulses to the muscle area touching the pads. This contracts and relaxes the muscle many times in a row to assist with healing.

These appointments can be multiple times a week, in the beginning, to help the body immediately. As you progress, these appointments can go from once a week to once a month.
