Nights of a Thousand Candles
The Nights of a Thousand Candles at the botanical gardens is an annual event that started in 1999. Originally called The Luminaria, this event takes place in two areas of the gardens: Oak Alley and the main sculpture garden. The event is open to the public for two nights during the holidays. During this event, visitors can enjoy the sights and sounds of a thousand candles illuminating the night sky. Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for children and are available in advance only.

The New York Botanical Garden is just a 20-minute drive from Manhattan’s Grand Central Terminal. Visitors can catch the Metro-North Harlem local line and get off at the Botanical Garden Station, located across from the Mosholu Entrance. For the Holiday Train Show, tickets cost $32 for adults, $30 for seniors, and $20 for children two to twelve. Members and patrons can also enjoy early admission to the show beginning at 9 a.m. on weekends.
This annual event features a wide variety of G-scale model trains and modern freight and passenger trains. The trains’ sound effects and twinkling lights add to the holiday spirit. Celebrate the holiday season in New York City at NYBG Glow, a spectacular outdoor holiday wonderland. This holiday festival features 1.5 miles of illuminated displays, dazzling lights, and colorful displays. There’s even a Bronx Night Market, artistic ice sculpture, and an evening viewing of the Holiday Train Show.
NYBG Glow will take place on 25 select dates. The dates include Wednesday, November 24, Friday, and Saturday, November 25, Saturday, December 3, Sunday, December 4, and Thursday, December 9, Sunday, and Monday, December 25. There are also events scheduled for Saturday, January 1, Saturday, January 8, and Sunday, January 15.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden Lightscape
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a botanical garden in Brooklyn, New York. It opened in 1910 and is located in Mount Prospect Park in central Brooklyn, adjacent to Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Museum. It contains over 14,000 species of plant taxa, and it is visited by nearly a million people annually.
The Lightscape features illuminated trees and 42 sculptures set to a curated soundtrack. The entire installation, which includes 600 strands of lights, took 18 days to build. The Lightscape features an incredible display of light sculptures and other art installations that create a spectacular visual experience. TILT and Pitaya, two French artists known for exploring light and space, are among the studios featured in the Lightscape. Another notable installation is Sea of Light by Ithaca, a multi-sensory light installation that will leave you spellbound.
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is hosting its fifth annual Lightscape this year. It features 18 works of light art by local and international artists. The Lightscape installation uses over one million bulbs, 60,000 pea lights, 630 lighting fixtures, 600 strands of lights, and 60 gobos. Gobos are objects placed in front or inside light sources to control the shape of the light. The installation also includes 42 sculptures. There are also five poems by Jacquelyn Woodson that are projected in light. There are also kinetic sculptures and 12 Pampas grass sculptures.
