Breaking Bad: Habits You Need to Lose for Your Personal Development

How many times have you held yourself back, either consciously or inadvertently? Sometimes, you can be your own worst enemy. Admitting that this is the case is the first step toward growth and personal development.

If you have goals you’re looking to achieve, then you need to remove any roadblocks that might be in your way. This includes ones that you yourself might have put in place. This guide will take you through some of the potential ways you could be holding yourself back and some of the positive changes you can make to help you get closer to the person you’re meant to be.

Poor Diet and Exercise

Even if the goals you have for yourself aren’t to do with your physical self or your fitness, you still need to make sure you’re looking after yourself. It’s your body that allows you to achieve everything in life, and it needs to be well looked after if you’re going to meet your goals.

Try to make sure to get moving for 30 minutes each day, limit the amount of alcohol and unhealthy foods you eat, and focus on eating fresh fruits and veggies. If you want to learn more about ways you can look after your body, see this link.

Negative Self Talk

Are you aware of the way you speak to and about yourself? Are you respectful and positive when talking about your achievements, or do you tend to diminish what you’ve accomplished and be too harsh on yourself?

Try a little exercise: next time you’re being tough on yourself, imagine that a friend was talking about you in this way. They wouldn’t seem like such a good friend, would they? Self-belief is such a huge part of success, so if you want to grow and develop as a person, you should try your best to switch from patterns of negative self talk to positive self talk.

Resisting Major Change

Humans tend to be creatures of habit. People like routines, and are most comfortable with what’s most familiar to them. These are natural instincts, but ultimately they’re not serving you or your life.

Instead of being afraid of changes or resistant to new opportunities in life, try to operate on the opposite principle. Instead of being filled with fear, try embracing change and being filled with excitement and interest instead. If you never change, you’ll never grow, and your personal development will only stagnate.

Facilitate Your Own Personal Development

One of the only people who can really hold you back in life is yourself. Identify the bad habits you’re holding on to, and then resolve to try and change them. When you make healthy lifestyle changes, this will naturally fuel your personal development and growth.
