Amazon Prime Day 2022: 21 Best Early Deals

[ad_1]

Amazon Prime Day is a two-day sales event where Prime subscribers can find hundreds of exclusive deals on products available through the online retailer, though there are lots of other discounts for nonmembers. This year, Prime Day is set for July 12 and 13, but you can already get plenty of pretty slick deals on some of our favorite stuff. From Amazon Fire-enabled TVs and speakers to third-party devices, here are some of our favorite early Prime Day 2022 deals.

Updated July 2, 2022: We’ve added deals from Google, Apple, Amazon, and JBL.

If you buy something using links in our stories, we may earn a commission. This helps support our journalism. Learn more.

TCL 6-Series

This is our favorite TV for most people (9/10, WIRED Recommends), and this is the lowest price we have ever tracked for the 55-inch model. It has a quantum dot panel for bright colors and utilizes local dimming zones for deeper blacks in your movies and shows. It has a built-in Roku interface, and the Micro-LED backlighting delivers exceptional contrast. This deal is also available at Walmart.

It might not look like a deal, but this price just recently dropped to its lowest ever. This is one of the prettiest TVs we’ve tested. The bezels are super slim, the OLED panel is fantastic and delivers deep blacks and rich colors, and it has an Android TV interface, which means you can also cast to it from your phone. It has weird feet on the ends, so it’s best to wall-mount it unless you have a large TV stand.

This is a basic, entry-level TV from Hisense, but we like the brand and trust its build quality, unlike some of the other generic Amazon TVs we haven’t tested. You get Dolby Vision high dynamic range support (read: prettier colors), and a built-in Fire TV for streaming your favorite Amazon shows.

Hisense U8G

This is just $2 more than the lowest price we have ever tracked. The U8G (8/10, WIRED Recommends) has a sleek design, an Android TV interface, and a raised stand to fit a soundbar underneath. Its excellent local dimming translates to great contrast with the quantum dot panel, and you also get a 120-Hz screen refresh rate. Pair it with a PC with an AMD card to make use of the AMD FreeSync support for smoother gaming.

If you’ve been shopping for an extra-large screen, this is one of the best discounts we’ve seen on a 75-inch model in months. It comes with Fire TV for easy streaming and Amazon shopping, plus full-array local dimming means black levels and highlights will look better than on cheaper screens.

This deal matches the lowest price we’ve tracked for the Chromecast with Google TV (8/10, WIRED Recommends). The gadget is the best 4K streaming device for folks that like Google Assistant and anyone that often uses an Android phone to stream. There’s still a slick and user-friendly interface that you can control with a cute remote. Be sure to check out our guide on How to Use Google TV to make the most of your purchase. This price is matched at Target

This deal is available exclusively to Amazon Prime members, and the price matches the lowest we’ve seen. The Eero 6 is one of the easiest mesh routers to set up. The compact design won’t take up too much space around your house, and you’ll get a router here with two extenders. There’s also a user-friendly mobile app, though additional features like parental controls are paywalled behind a $3 per month subscription. You can also get the version with three routers if you want extra Ethernet ports and a slightly better range—it’s also on sale for $186 ($63 off). Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra (9/10, WIRED Recommends) is an excellent all-around high-end Android phone. It excels in almost every category, and it’ll even get Android version upgrades longer than the Google Pixel phones (weird, considering that Google maintains the Android operating system). It’s a massive phone that even includes a built-in stylus, but the highlight is the spectacular 10X optical zoom camera that’ll let you snap crisp photos of objects far away.

The A53 5G (8/10, WIRED Recommends) has pretty much every feature most people need, including 5G, NFC for contactless payments, more than a day of battery life, IP67 water resistance, and a MicroSD card slot. Then it goes a step further with high-end perks like a 120-Hz AMOLED screen, four OS upgrades, plus five years of security updates. At this price, it’s an exceptional value.

If you’re bored with smartphones that are basically rectangular slabs, perhaps a folding phone like the Galaxy Z Flip 3 (7/10, WIRED Recommends) will excite you. It recently dipped to $700, but this is still one of the lowest prices we have ever tracked for it (and one of the lowest prices we’ve seen on a foldable phone). Unlike previous versions, the third-generation Flip is a lot more durable—complete with IPX8 water resistance. This compact device includes a smooth 120-Hz screen, wireless charging, and 5G connectivity.

The Moto G Stylus 5G (6/10, WIRED Review) received an honorable mention on our roundup of Best Android Phones—we knocked it for its lack of software and security updates, as well as underwhelming cameras (compared to similarly priced Pixel 5A and Samsung Galaxy A53). It does, however, offer smooth performance, two-day battery life, 5G connectivity, and NFC for contactless payments. The built-in stylus also comes in handy for jotting down notes or signing documents right from the smartphone.

MacBook Pro 16 Inch With M1 Pro

Photograph: Apple

Yes, technically Apple has announced a new MacBook Pro with the M2 chip, but this pricier MacBook Pro from 2021 and its M1 Pro processor are actually much more powerful. This is the machine for anyone who needs to do some serious CPU-intensive tasks, from photo and video editing to 3D rendering. It dipped $50 lower in April, but this is still a great deal. This machine has plenty of ports, including HDMI, and a 1080p webcam. Read more in our Best MacBooks guide.

The Pixelbook Go is getting a little old, but it’s still an excellent, no-frills laptop. It’s a Chromebook, so it’s only a great option for anyone who can work completely off the Chrome browser (though Android apps are available via the Google Play Store). Read our Best Chromebooks guide for more details.

You will need to buy the keyboard attachment to get the most out of this small Windows laptop (any Bluetooth keyboard will also work). The Surface Go 3 isn’t very powerful, but it’s good enough for simple tasks like browsing the web, sending emails, editing documents, and watching YouTube.

The newer 2021 edition of the Kindle Paperwhite is the best Kindle for most people, but the older generation is still solid—and, thanks to this discount, $50 less. The 2019 version lacks USB-C charging and the improved display of the newer counterpart, but it does still feature a backlight and adjustable warm lighting. Read more about it in our in-depth review. This deal brings the price down to just $5 higher than we saw on Prime Day last year. Note: There’s a chance the newer versions will go on sale when Prime Day begins, so keep that in mind if you’re in the market.

Smartwatch and Audio Deals

Apple Watch SE

Photograph: Apple

WIRED senior associate editor Adrienne So calls the Apple Watch SE (8/10, WIRED Recommends) the best Apple Watch for most people, which makes this a solid time to snag it at a discount. It doesn’t have all the health features of the high-end Apple Watch Series 7 (also on sale for $329), but it has most of the ones that matter on a day-to-day basis. Read our Apple Watch guide for more details.

This is the lowest price we’ve ever tracked for Amazon’s fitness tracker. Senior associate editor Adrienne So says it’s comfortable to wear though it recommends you strip to your underwear to measure body fat composition. It can do the usual fitness tracker functions, like tracking steps, heart rate, sleep, and blood oxygen levels.

This Wear OS smartwatch will receive the update to Wear OS 3. It’s also one of the only Wear OS smartwatches you can expect to comfortably last two full days, thanks to its clever dual-display technology. It has a smooth interface, and it does a great job of tracking health metrics like blood oxygen rate, step count, and continuous heart rate monitoring. Read more about it in our Best Smartwatches guide

Bang & Olufsen Beosound A1

Photograph: Bang & Olufsen

This speaker is rated IP67 for water and dust resistance, so it can take a dunk in the pool without worry. It’s portable, has a nice leather strap, and it’s one of the best-sounding small speakers we’ve ever heard

I love Echo Dots (8/10, WIRED Recommends) more than just about any other smart speaker. They’re small, sound pretty darn good, and work perfectly for sleep sounds, timers, and a quick check of the weather. Last Prime Day, the price dipped as low as $25, so it’s worth waiting. Be sure to read our guide on How to Make Your Amazon Echo as Private as Possible.

This model specifically isn’t featured in our guide to the Best Bluetooth Speakers, but we generally like JBL products. The compact Go 3 is designed with portability in mind. The rugged construction is resistant to water and dust, making the speaker a good companion for hiking or beach trips. Most colors are discounted. This price matches the lowest we’ve tracked. More JBL speakers are on sale here.
