2. Americano

Smoother than a straight espresso, the Americano is simply an espresso with water added to it.

Not only does it make your espresso experience last a bit longer, but it’s a great way to mellow out all the bitter notes you might not enjoy in your morning cup.

Typically, this is drink is made with a single or double shot of espresso and varying ratios of water, though the most common is 2:1.

3. Flat White

Another espresso drink, this one also comes with steamed milk and a layer of foam to top it all off. It’s similar to a latte, but there isn’t as much foam.

If you’re visiting a coffee shop to try this drink for the first time, the lines between it, a latte, or a cappuccino might be slightly blurred.

4. Cold Brew

For iced options, making a fresh cold brew is not only easy, but it’s great for a smooth cup of coffee in the morning right after you wake up. Since the coffee is steeping, a lot of the acidity gets lost in the process and the end result is a sweeter cup.

This option is also great if you’re low on equipment. All you need is coffee grounds (coarse work best), a jar, and a filter to pour it through once you’re done! You can also opt for cold brew bags for less mess.

Ideally, you want to let your cold brew steep for 12 to 24 hours, depending on how strong you’d like it to be.
