3 Types of Cosmetic Dentistry Services

Did you know that periodontal disease is the most common cause of tooth loss among adults? In the United States, it affects nearly half of those above the age of 30.

Fortunately, there are several ways to replace missing teeth. For example, you can get a dental bridge. Not only will it fill the gap, but it’ll also restore your bite.

If anything, it’s one of the most common cosmetic dentistry treatments performed today.

What other services do cosmetic dentists offer? How do they work? Find out all of the answers and more by reading the rest of the post!

1. Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial root that’s surgically implanted into the jawbone. Made of titanium, it’ll fuse with the bone tissue over time to provide a stable foundation for crowns and dentures.

There are four main types: single tooth implants, implanted-supported bridges, all-on-4 dental implants, and 3-on-6 dental implants.

Are dental implants painful? The short answer is no. You may feel some pressure at times during the procedure, but there shouldn’t be any discomfort as it’s performed under local anesthesia.

Once the numbness wears off, you may experience some mild pain but it shouldn’t last more than a few days.

2. Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made coverings that are bonded to the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. For example, they can be used to treat chipped, discolored, or broken teeth.

More often than not, they’re made from porcelain or composite resin material. The former is stronger and more durable while the latter requires less prep work.

How much do they cost? It depends, but generally speaking, you can expect to pay between $400 and $2,000 per tooth. As with all cosmetic procedures, they’re not usually covered by insurance.

3. Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is one of the simplest ways to improve your smile. While there are over-the-counter whitening products that you can use, they’re not nearly as effective as in-office-based bleaching.

For one thing, they can cause tooth sensitivity, as well as temporary bleached gums, if applied incorrectly. Not only that, but the results won’t last nearly as long. Take whitening strips and gels, for example, they’ll only produce results for a few months.

In-office whitening treatments, on the other hand, can last several years with proper care. The solution is also stronger, which means that your teeth will be whiter.

Different Types of Cosmetic Dentistry Services

As you can see, there are several options when it comes to cosmetic dentistry, from dental implants to teeth whitening. At the end of the day, it all depends on what you’re looking for. For those who are interested, contact your local cosmetic dentist!
