3 Things You Should Know About Nasal Reconstruction Surgery

While fewer people are getting nasal reconstruction surgery, it’s still one of the most popular surgeries in the United States. Are you thinking about doing it?

If there’s something that you don’t like about your nose, why not make a change? We’re here with a few key things that you should know about nasal reconstruction before you make your decision. Read on to learn more.

1. What Are the Benefits of Nasal Reconstruction Surgery?

Most of the time, nasal reconstruction surgery (otherwise known as rhinoplasty) is cosmetic. While nasal septal reconstruction may, in some cases, improve your ability to breathe, most of the benefits are appearance-based.

If you’ve suffered a broken nose, nasal reconstruction surgery can make it as good as new (or even better). If you worry that your nose is too large or too small, a good surgeon will make sure that it’s the perfect size for your face.

With nasal tip reconstruction, you can get the tiny-tipped nose of your dreams.

Overall, the top benefit of nasal reconstruction surgery is a confidence boost. If you’re not happy with your nose, why wouldn’t you change it? It’s going to be the center of your face forever.

2. What Is the Recovery Period Like?

Many people worry about a difficult post-surgical recovery period. It’s true that recovering from nasal reconstruction surgery is uncomfortable, but it’s also manageable.

It’s an outpatient procedure, so in most cases, you can go home the day of your appointment. At this point, your nose and the surrounding areas will be bruised and swollen. You may even look like you have two black eyes.

You’ll have splints and packing materials in and around your nose to keep it secure.

You’ll experience drainage, bleeding, and headaches, as well as some soreness, but you should be able to return to many of your normal activities after about one week.

You won’t be able to see the final results of your rhinoplasty for about 4 weeks when most of the swelling goes down.

3. Are There Any Post-Surgical Restrictions?

Once your nose is completely healed, you won’t have any restrictions. During the recovery period, however, you need to be careful if you don’t want to hurt yourself or set your healing back.

Avoid any clothing that would be tight around your face when you pull it over your head (for example, turtlenecks). You should also avoid any activities that could result in you bumping your nose.

Don’t do strenuous activities until the healing period is over (or until you get your surgeon’s permission). Make sure that you wear sunscreen on your nose to protect it.

Even if you’re feeling stuffy, resist the urge to blow your nose.

If you’re unsure of whether or not you’re “allowed” to do something after your surgery, talk to your surgeon.

Are You Ready for Nasal Reconstruction Surgery?

Nasal reconstructive surgery is a simple (and fairly safe) procedure. Make sure to prepare any questions for your surgeon when you go in for your consultation. Enjoy your beautiful new nose!
