3 Common Dental Procedures You’ve Probably Experienced

Have you experienced any dental procedures recently?

While no one enjoys visiting the dentist, the benefits of it far outweigh any temporary discomfort. From teeth whitening to routine checkups, there are many things a dentist can do for you.

Are you interested in finding out more about the common dental procedures you’ve experienced? If so, then you’ve come to the right place.

Keep reading to learn about the dental procedures that everyone goes through.

1. Teeth Cleanings

Most people have had their teeth cleaned by a dentist or dental hygienist at some point in their lives. The frequency of teeth cleanings varies from person to person, but usually, it is recommended to have your teeth cleaned every 6 months to prevent tartar buildup and maintain oral health.

The teeth cleaning process is generally pretty straightforward and involves using special instruments to scrape off the tartar and polish the teeth. Some people may experience discomfort during the cleaning, but it is generally not painful. After teeth cleaning, you should feel like you have brand new teeth and your mouth should feel refreshed!

2. Dental Fillings

Dental fillings are one of the most common dental procedures. They are used to restore teeth that have been damaged by decay.

Fillings are also used to repair cracked or chipped teeth and to prevent further decay. There are different types of dental fillings including amalgam (silver), composite (tooth-colored), gold, and porcelain.

Amalgam fillings are the most commonly used in a dental filling procedure, although they are not as esthetically pleasing as other types of fillings. Composite fillings are made of a resin material that can be matched to the color of your natural teeth.

Gold and porcelain fillings are also esthetically pleasing, but they are the most expensive types of dental fillings. The type of filling material that is best for you will be determined by your dentist based on the location and size of the cavity, as well as your personal preference.

3. Extractions

A dental extraction is the process wherein a tooth is removed from the mouth. Extractions are performed for a variety of reasons, including crowding, tooth decay, and gum disease.

Local anesthesia is used to numb the area around the tooth that is being extracted. The dentist will then use a tool to loosen the tooth and remove it.

In some cases, a dental extraction may be performed on a tooth that is broken or has undergone root canal treatment. After the tooth is removed, the area will be cleaned and a dressing may be placed over the empty socket.
